Surf Life Saving WA is dedicated to being an inclusive organisation, and is committed to providing a safe environment for all who choose to participate in surf lifesaving activities.
What is inclusion?
All Surf Life Saving clubs in Western Australia aim for an increased level of participation through inclusive practices at all clubs. We acknowledge that all clubs are welcoming of all members of their local community, irrespective of any individual’s background, gender, ability, race, age or sexuality.
Multicultural and CaLD Inclusion
SLSWA is committed to being an inclusive organisation, welcoming people of all walks of life to actively participate in our community programs and surf club system.
Sadly, over 30% of drowning's on the WA coast are people of overseas nationality. This is largely due to growing up with little to no interaction with the beach environment, and migrating to Australia where our long stretch of coastline becomes their backyard. In WA, going to the beach is very much a part of our lifestyle, with the coast offering a range of fun recreation opportunities.
SLSWA’s Multicultural and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) Inclusion programs endeavour to improve this trend by helping people of all nationalities enjoy our coastline safely and be BeachSAFE.

SLSWA endeavours to accommodate every member of the community, irrespective of any limiting or permanent disability. SLSWA encourages members with a disability to get involved in Surf Life Saving activities and will support individuals to obtain qualifications, depending on their abilities, which will allow them to complete surf lifesaving patrols, and also to compete in surf sport activities if they choose to do so. Each case is individually considered based on the persons abilities and circumstances and the utmost support is provided to see how they can be involved at a club and state level.
